Field day

Set within the rolling Surrey countryside near Reigate, this garden was designed to feel as though it had evolved naturally around the house, responding to its open views, mature trees and existing woodland.

Closer to the house and annex, a series of defined spaces provide places for outdoor cooking, dining and relaxing, gradually giving way to looser areas naturalistic planting, meadow and lawn. Informal paths lead through the garden to quieter seating spots, a firepit and a woodland play area, allowing the landscape to be explored and enjoyed in different ways throughout the day.

The arrival was also reconsidered, combining a practical gravel driveway and parking with modern cottage-style planting that complements the character of the house.

The result is a relaxed family garden that balances everyday life with a strong sense of place — generous, informal and increasingly wild as it moves away from the house.
