After the transhumance
In the Aubrac region of South West France, a land shaped by harsh yet breathtaking landscapes, rich heritage, and deep biodiversity, lies a 3.2-hectare former farm nestled in a valley. The client’s vision is to regenerate the land in a way that benefits the environment, supports the local community, and creates a sustainable model for eco and wellness tourism.
The first step was to restore biodiversity and build resilience. A holistic approach was applied and draws on expertise from specialists such as ecologists, entomologists and soil scientists. It includes river restoration, traditional land management and the reintroduction of species rich grasslands, meadows and woodland.
Layered onto this ecological foundation is a landscape designed for human connection and wellbeing. Swimming spots, gathering places, walking trails, and quiet retreats are carefully integrated into the terrain. At its heart, the project offers a one-of-a-kind yoga destination, where the landscape enhances the experience—flow through Vinyasa by the river, find stillness among basalt boulders during Yin yoga, and surrender to deep Nidra relaxation in a woodland clearing.
Materiality is at the core of the project, honouring the area’s agricultural roots and its tradition of craftsmanship. Every material will be locally sourced within a 25km radius, reclaimed, or repurposed—a commitment to sustainability that ensures the site’s past is woven into its future.
A project that is as deeply regenerative as it is experiential, reconnecting people with nature in one of France’s most striking landscapes.
