Rewilded Walled Garden — Knepp

We had very high expectations — and yet our minds were completely blown. Those expectations were not only met, but truly exceeded. We were fortunate to visit on a glorious summer day, with perfect weather to experience the garden at its best.

At Moss, we believe that gardens should not only look good but, just as importantly, feel good. The Knepp Walled Garden is the epitome of that philosophy. It is breathtakingly beautiful — and it feels wonderful.

What struck us most — and what we all commented on — was how alive the garden was. It was buzzing, bursting with life, instantly transporting us back to childhoods when insect life was so abundant you could hear and see it everywhere.

There were what felt like hundreds of butterflies and bees drifting through the air; beetles scuttling underfoot; cinnabar moths climbing stems. Every corner felt animated.

Knepp’s garden also looks refreshingly different. It brings something genuinely new to the landscape — a distinct aesthetic and a powerful example of what can be achieved when highly skilled gardeners embrace a more ecological way of working.

We’re already planning our next visit. We left feeling deeply inspired, carrying lessons we can’t wait to implement in our upcoming projects.
