A lush retreat in Madrid

Having discovered our earlier project A Garden for Coco when it featured on the television series Your Garden Made Perfect, the clients—then based in London—contacted us after returning to their home city of Madrid. They were embarking on the construction of a new house in one of the city’s greenest residential neighbourhoods and wanted all surrounding garden areas to be designed by Moss.

The brief was to create an “urban jungle”: lush, layered and immersive, wrapping the house in planting that would soften and contrast with its contemporary architecture and interiors. The garden needed to accommodate outdoor dining and lounging spaces, a small sunbathing area and a swimming pool, while still incorporating generous planting. A layered planting scheme was developed to provide year-round interest, fragrance and movement, introducing softer textures, dappled light to bring the garden to life.
