Under the copper beech

What was once just a large rectangular lawn, struggling in deep shade, has now been transformed into a lush, layered garden oasis. At its heart, a deck made of oak sleepers nestled within abundant planting, creates a nurturing space for gatherings with friends and family. Two additional seating nooks, tucked into greenery, offer intimate spots to relax and connect with nature.

Our clients, who love entertaining, are also keen advocates for wildlife friendly gardens and wanted a space to not only host gatherings but also support birds and pollinators year-round. The planting scheme, inspired by a magnificent copper beech at the garden’s edge, celebrates its dappled light—shimmering, shifting, and casting enchanting shadows throughout the day.

A stunning Indian vintage gate, a nod to the client’s heritage, elegantly screens the skateboard ramp and teenage hangout at the back and creates a sense of depth and discovery.

This is a garden that balances social spaces with nature, where light dances through the canopy, and magic is found in every shade-dappled moment.
