Under the copper Beech
We transformed a big rectangle lawn that was struggling as too shady into a densely and layered planted oasis. It includes a lounge island ( a deck made of oak sleepers with lounge furniture nested in deep and lush borders), and two other sitting corners nestled in planting.
The clients are big entertainers but also very keen on wildlife so we made sure we incorporated plenty of habitat and food for birds and pollinators throughout the year.
A magnificent Copper beech right on the boundary with the neighbours garden is the main inspiration for the planting scheme and choice of materials. We wanted to celebrate it and the dappled shade that it creates. It’s all about the dappled shade in this garden, twinking light, movement of light canopies and moving shadows. Pure magic.
A stunning Indian ( a nod to our client’s origins) vintage gate screens the skateboard ramp and teenage hangout at the back of the garden while offering glimpses and a sense of depth.
