You know where to find me

This North East-facing garden in East Dulwich was designed to connect a striking new zinc-clad extension by Proctor & Shaw, with an existing gym studio at the rear. Surrounded by neighbouring birches, the garden bathes in dappled light. We wanted to embrace the shady aspect, not fight it, while capturing the sun.

Three terraced levels create a subtle sense of journey, with four distinct seating spots carved into the space: a corner for morning coffee, a suntrap for sunbathing, a tucked-away lounge for evening light, and a cooking area which includes a Big Green Egg and a blackboard for the “menu of the day”.

At the heart of the garden stands a graceful multi-stemmed Cornus kousa, with delicate June bracts and stunning autumn colour that make it a year-round focal point.

A playful use of steel grates forms both a bridge to the studio and steps between the main and middle terrace — blending utility with lightness and allowing greenery to grow beneath your feet.

This garden was featured on Dezeen.
